Delete your MyTaxMate account

Last updated: 20 October 2026

You can request deletion of your MyTaxMate account and the personal data we hold about you at any time. This page explains how to do that, how long it takes, and what happens to your data.

1.How to request deletion

If you're signed in, the easiest path is to open the app and go to Settings, Delete Account. One click and a confirmation, no email needed.

Otherwise, email us from the address registered to your MyTaxMate account:

To: support@mytaxmate.my

Subject: Delete my account

Body: Please delete my MyTaxMate account and all associated data.

We'll confirm receipt within 2 working days, verify your identity, and complete the deletion within 30 days of verification.

2.What gets deleted

Everything in your account is permanently deleted from our live systems:

  • Your login: password and sessions (see section 3 for your email address)
  • Profile data: your name, marital status, and your disability and spouse-relief details
  • Dependents: names, relationships, dates of birth, and study or disability details
  • Every year of assessment you set up, with its income, business records, reliefs and computed tax
  • Receipts: the photos and everything read from them
  • Bank statements: the uploaded files and the transactions taken from them
  • Any exports or audit packs you generated
  • Chat history with Kira (the in-app tax assistant)
  • Notification settings and device tokens

A web subscription paid by card is cancelled when your account is deleted. An App Store or Google Play subscription is not: cancel it in your phone's subscription settings.

3.What we keep after deletion

No tax data, receipts or bank statements. We do not keep copies of any of it once your account is deleted. The only things we keep are your email address on our do-not-email list, so we never contact you again, and a note that your deletion request was carried out.

Malaysian law (Income Tax Act 1967, section 82) asks taxpayers to keep the records behind a filing for seven years. That duty is yours, not ours, so please download anything you need before you delete: build the audit pack from the Receipts page, or ask us for a data export (section 5).

  • Backups: copies of your data leave every backup we hold within 90 days.
  • Security and error logs: these can contain your account ID for up to 90 days. They hold no profile or tax data.
  • Usage statistics: anonymous counts of how the app is used, never linked to your name, email or tax figures.

4.Partial deletion

If you want to delete only some of your data, for example a single year's tax account or a specific receipt, without closing your whole account, you can do that yourself inside the app:

  • Delete a tax account: open the account, click the menu icon (three dots) in the top-right, choose Delete account. You always keep at least one account, so this option only appears when you have two or more. To remove your only account, close your whole account instead.
  • Delete a receipt: open the receipt, tap the trash icon.
  • Delete a dependent: open Profile, find the dependent, tap remove.

These actions take effect immediately and cannot be undone. A deleted receipt's record and its image file are both erased from our live systems the moment you confirm, so please check before you tap. A copy stays in our backups for up to 90 days before that is removed too.

5.Data export before deletion

If you want a copy of your data before requesting deletion, email support@mytaxmate.my with the subject “Data export request”. We'll send you a JSON archive of your account, profile, tax accounts, and receipts within 7 working days.

6.Questions

For anything not covered here, or if you don't receive a response within 7 working days of emailing us, please write to support@mytaxmate.my. You can also read the full Privacy Policy for context on how we collect and protect your data day-to-day.
